Presentation of ‘Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles and Extensions’

A presentation of Georgian translation of the world famous English language textbook ‘Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles and Extensions’ was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on July 9. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Teimuraz Beridze, students, professors and invited guests attended the event.

“No such Georgian-language classical textbook in microeconomic theory existed until now. From September this book will be available to students. The university project on textbook translation is still underway and presentations of the books prepared at other faculties will be held in the near future,” TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said.

Professor Eter Kharaishvili is a scientific editor of the Georgian translation of the textbook. Members of the editorial board are: I. Gagnidze, M. Natsvaladze, I. Natsvlishvili, M. Chavleishvili and PhD student L. Labadze.

“This textbook is used by leading European and American universities. Although it is a thick book, the issues are discussed in a very logical manner. This is the book, which will help students thoroughly study microeconomic theories on the basis of systemic analysis and develop their analytical skills,” Prof. Eter Kharaishvili, scientific editor of Georgian translation of the textbook, said.

Walter Nicholson, a famous economist, is the author of the book. He earned his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and presently he is the Ward H. Patton Emeritus Professor of Economics at Amherst College. Christopher Snyder is the co-author of the textbook. He is the Joel Z. and Susan Hyatt Professor of Economics at Dartmouth College. This book is used by the world’s leading universities, among them California, Colorado, George Washington, MIT, Kentucky and Duke Universities, as well as Dartmouth College (USA), University of Warwick (Great Britain), Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada), London School of Economics (LSE), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, American University of Science and Technology in Beirut, etc.   

‘Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles and Extensions’ was issued in Georgian in frames of the university textbook translation project initiated by Rector Vladimer Papava and was printed at the TSU Publishing House.
