Student Project ‘Generation L’ Launched at TSU

22 April, 2015
A presentation of a student project Generation L was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on April 22. The project was opened with a lecture Importance of Literacy among Young People by Dato Turashvili.

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Marketing Manager of Palitra L Publishing, Sopo Sakevarishvili and students attended the event.

TSU Rector, Vladimer Papava said that “the idea of holding this competition comes from students and therefore it becomes more interesting. We try to encourage and interest young people to read books. This competition will have one winner, but no one will be defeated.”

“We all are interested in being more literate. We received an advice from young people and carried out this successful project,” Marketing Manager of Palitra L, Sopo Sakevarishvili said.

“There is a wrong imagination about reading in Georgia. It is believed in Georgia that reading is a phenomenon associated with age. Reading is never enough; reading is a pleasure that will continue till you are alive,” Dato Turashvili said.

The project idea belongs to the students of the Tbilisi State University and it is jointly implemented by TSU and Palitra L Publishing.

The project aims at promoting literacy among young people and offering more fiction to students in a form of a competition. TSU students from all the three educational stages can participate in the competition. The contestants will read 10 books selected for the project and write the tests exclusively prepared for the competition. One winner will be revealed, whom Palitra L Publishing will award the main prize at GEL 1000. Registration of contestants will start on April 23 marking the Day of the Book.

The competition is traditional and it is held for the second time already. 400 students participated in the competition in 2014.  Winners received various gifts presented by TSU and Palitra L Publishing. Anano Aspanidze, student from the TSU Faculty of Economics and Business, won the competition last year.
