An annual science forum dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili’s memory was opened at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on April 23. The best research papers selected by the faculty commissions will be read out at the two-day science forum by the authors – TSU professors, emeriti, research fellows and students.

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, TSU students, professors, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences, governmental and legislative structures as well as invited guests will attend the event.

TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “This is for the second year already that a science forum is being held on the birthday of one of the founders of the Tbilisi State University; its aim is to select research papers prepared by TSU professors and students as well as to summarize the previous year’s scientific research activities.”
April 23, the first day of the forum, was dedicated to research papers submitted by TSU professors, emeriti and research fellows. The authors of papers presented at the forum received certificates and pecuniary awards at GEL 5 000.

“It is indeed a welcomed initiative to reveal the best research papers for the science forum dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili’s memory. We, the professors, are preparing for this forum thoroughly. My paper was selected from the Faculty of Medicine. It is a great honor for me to present the results of my research carried out over the past three years to the scientific community,” Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Dimitri Kordzaia said.

On April 24, BA, MA and PhD students from the Tbilisi State University will present their research papers selected by the faculty commissions. The authors of papers will receive certificates and pecuniary awards: BA students – GEL 500; MA students – GEL 1000 and PhD students – GEL 1500.

The annual science forum dedicated to the memory of Ivane Javakhishvili was first held at TSU in 2014, upon initiative of Rector Vladimer Papava. TSU professors, emeriti, research fellows and students from all the six faculties participated in it.

Specifically for the science forum, the editorial board of a newspaper Tbilisi University prepared a collection – “A Man who Changed Georgia’s Consciousness – Ivane Javakhishvili” (editor Nino Kakulia), which was handed over to the winners of the science forum.

An exhibition of archaeological materials kept at the TSU Museum, discovered in various parts of Georgia at different times as well as on the Grakliani Hill was held at the university museum.  

Ivane Javakhishvili, a famous Georgian scientist and public figure, founder of the first Georgian university, was born on April 23, 1876. In 2015 the Georgian society marks his 139th birth anniversary.
