French-Language BA Program in Computer Science – Diploma Award Ceremony

On July 12, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a French national diploma award ceremony (Université Paris 8) for the graduates of the French-language BA program in Computer Science (Filière Francophone en Informatique). Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze; Program Director Jean-Jacques Mariage of Université Paris 8; representatives of the TSU Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences; Program Coordinator Archil Elizbarashvili, professors and students attended the event.

TSU Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that the French-language BA program works successfully in Georgia. “About 100 Georgian students have received dual diplomas of TSU and Université Paris 8. Their employment rates are extremely high: according to the data for past six years, all graduates have got jobs that indicates at a high quality of teaching. We plan to further enhance our collaboration with our French partners,” Rector Sharvashidze said.

“This program enabled us to get an education in computer science meeting the highest international standards,” BA program graduate, Guri Salukvadze said.

The French-language BA Program in Computer Science was launched in 2002, at TSU – in 2009. During 15 years of its existence, over 100 students completed their studies. In the course of the studies, students spend at least one semester at Université Paris 8. 40 percent of graduates continued their studies at the postgraduate level in France or other French-speaking countries. The program is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Ministry of National Education of France and it envisages deep learning of the French language. Lectures are delivered by Georgian and French lecturers.
