Academic Conference Marking the 15th Anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Rome Status

The International Law Institute of the Faculty of Law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) marked the 15th anniversary of the entry into force of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court with an academic conference.

The conference covered actual theoretical and practical issues of international criminal law and humanitarian law. About 25 BA and MA students from the Department of International Law of the TSU Faculty of Law, professors, lecturers and researchers participated in it.

Director of the International Law Institute, Academician Levan Aleksidze and Professor, Gender and Law Chair at TSU, Ketevan Khutsishvili addressed the participants. Students presented papers in frames of thematic panels. In particular, their papers covered a wide range of issues, among them aggression and use of force, gross violation of international humanitarian law and war crimes, methods and means of waging a war and new technologies, persons belonging to a special category during armed conflicts, criminal liability and the role of international non-governmental organizations in the development of international criminal law and humanitarian law.

By the end of the conference, certificates of participation were awarded to all participants.
