Founder of Wings for Life Visits TSU

Heinz Kinigadner, founder of the Wings for Life foundation, met students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on March 30. Deputy Rector of TSU, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, World Run Goodwill Ambassadors to Georgia, students attended the event. 

Deputy Rector of TSU, Mikheil Chkhenkeli said that by participating in the Wings for Life World Run, “we will support those research activities and experiments, which will, in turn, promote healing the injured spinal cord. I am glad that TSU is actively participating in this project. About one thousand persons from our university have already supported this world project through their participation. This year, our students and academic staff will run in the world marathon for the fourth time, proving that any obstacle can be overcome.” 

Heinz Kinigadner, founder of the Wings for Life foundation, said that the project aims to help people with spinal cord injuries, adding that the project is targeted at everyone, because 50% of such injuries are inflicted in the streets, car accidents and so on. He also noted that in this case, running does not mean only health, but it also means helping people with such injuries.

“This world run exists for already four years. I took part in the previous three marathons and this year I again plan to run. We, the healthy people, who do not suffer from spinal cord injuries, can make our contribution to this huge project and help people with spinal cord injuries,” TSU student, Rati Gelashvili said.

“This project is important as it popularizes health lifestyle. Simultaneously, it is a competition – you can test yourself how many kilometers you will run. But most important is that we are involved in charity – we are assisting development, settlement of the problem related to spinal cord injury,” Merab Dukashvili of the Children and Youth National Center said.

During the meeting held at TSU, representatives of the foundation and Goodwill Ambassadors talked about the World Run history and significance, contribution of each participant to this charitable event.

Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation. Its mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injury. It funds world-class scientific research and clinical trials around the globe aimed at healing the injured spinal cord.
