3 March, 2017
Reforms ongoing at Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) were discussed at a meeting held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on March 2. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze; Assistant Director General of GPB, Ia Antadze; Head of Newsroom, Giorgi Gvimradze; Head of GPB’s Strategic Development Service, Paata Kurdadze , students and academics attended the event. GPB representatives discussed the changes planned at public television, as well as the plans of its development.

Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that public interest towards recent developments around GPB is extremely high. “It is not the first discussion. The university has already hosted an open meeting. The university is the place, where future journalists acquire knowledge. At the today’s meeting, which is being held in a roundtable format, future journalists are meeting their colleagues to discuss those issues, those changes, which are planned at GPB. We all want to make Georgian Public Broadcaster better and we should discuss just how to make it better. It is good that such issues are discussed in a professional environment,” Rector Sharvashidze said.

“Students of the Faculty of Journalism are future employees of Georgian Public Broadcaster, those, who should serve the public in the field of journalism. Similar meetings are very important. I think that they are essential and it is GPB’s duty to hold similar meetings not only here, but in the regions too,” Paata Kurdadze, head of GPB’s Strategic Development Service, said.

TSU student, Mariam Gvaramia said that students’ meeting with the representatives of Georgian Public Broadcaster is very important. “Georgian Public Broadcaster is the country’s main broadcaster and for us, TSU journalists, it is utterly important to have relations with this television and to undergo internships there,” she said.

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University will host similar meetings between GPB representatives and TSU students in future as well.
