TSU Hosts Evening with Medea Zaalishvili

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted an evening with Medea Zaalishvili, TSU lecturer and translator. Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze awarded the Medal of the Tbilisi State University to Medea Zaalishvili for her contribution to translation and pedagogical activities.
“For already four decades, Medea Zaalishvili’s name has been associated with the Tbilisi State University. During this period, she presented a lot of good translations to us, the readers. She is still actively translating literary works,” Rector Sharvashidze said.
Medea Zaalishvili thanked the organizers of the event. “This event showed me that I have made a contribution to the art of translation. My activities are not limited by one particular direction: I am translating both poetry and prose; ultimately, a lot of works have been accumulated. But most important is not how much I translate, but how I translate,” Medea Zaalishvili said.
Representatives of the TSU administration, professors and students attended the event.
Medea Zaalishvili is known not only among the university society, but also among the broad public interested in literature and European culture. From 1963 till 2005 she was involved in pedagogical activities at TSU. For years she has been translating the works of famous English and American poets and prose writers. Her following translations are worth noting: William Shakespeare “Titus Andronicus”; William Shakespeare “Venus and Adonis”; Thomas Stearns Eliot “The Waste Land”; short stories by Thomas Wolfe and Shirley Jackson, etc.
