TSU Youth Center Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The TSU Youth Center presented an annual performance report at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on December 12.  In frames of the event, a PITA Wish Box was placed by Promoting Integration, Tolerance and Awareness (PITA) Program for the students of Georgian language educational program. This idea aims to attract student opinions, desires and creative initiatives in a simplified manner. During an academic year, students will have an opportunity to place envelopes into the PITA Wish Box involving their ideas, desires, and activities in any directions that may become a source of new initiatives. Deputy Rector of TSU, Mikheil Chkhenkeli; State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, professors and students from 1+4 program attended the event.

“The Rector’s Office will definitely discuss any wish placed in this box and we will do our utmost to implement them,” Deputy Rector Mikheil Chkhenkeli said.

State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili addressed the students from 1+4 program: “Active involvement of ethnic minorities is extremely important for our country and we will be glad if more ethnic minority representatives get involved in the activities of our state. Certainly, knowledge of the official language is very important – just it is envisaged by this program.”       

TSU Associate Professor and head of 1+4 program, Kakha Gabunia said: “The project envisages social and academic integration of non-Georgian students into the Georgian-language society. TSU Youth Center unites Georgian, Armenian and Azerbaijani students.Various activities promote their integration into the society and strengthening of language component.”

The event was held in frames of Promoting Integration, Tolerance and Awareness (PITA) Program implemented by the United Nations Association of Georgia (UNAG) with financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Center for Civil Integration and Inter-Ethnic Relations (CCIIR) and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University are partner organizations of the program.
