TSU Psychologists Assist Flood Victims

Representatives of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) have rendered psychological assistance to the children and juveniles affected by the June 13-14 flood in Tbilisi.
The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, along with Young Psychologists Association, Institute of Neurology and Neuropsychology and Psychological Consultation Center, has actively joined the process of rendering psychological assistance to flood victims since the very first day of the disaster.
BA students from the direction of psychology have identified psychological and other needs of flood victims. According to their data, among flood victims there are 55 children of various ages. Five children were in need of immediate psychological assistance.
Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, Professor Tamar Gagoshidze was actively involved in the process of searching for resources required for rendering psychological services to flood-affected children. Psychotherapist Mzia Dalakishvili from the Institute of Neurology and Neuropsychology and Neuropsychologist Nino Margvelashvili rendered psychological first aid to flood-affected children on the ground.
Psychological first aid was also rendered to adults. Psychologists carried out group work with them under the guidance of Head of Psychological Consultation Center, Medea Despotashvili.
Young Psychologists Association and 11 student volunteers from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences are involved in the coalition project “June 13 – Psychological Assistance” that offers interesting activities to children at Vitamin Cubes at Turtle Lake. The organizations and experts united in this coalition have been serving flood-affected children since July 1. The project envisages various entertaining and cognitive activities for children.
