‘Generation L’ Student Competition Awards Ceremony

Generation L student competition awards ceremony was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on July 7. Palitra L Publishing awarded the main prize of GEL 1000 to the project winner, Inga Antidze. All finalists received special prizes presented by TSU and Palitra L Publishing.
“Generation L is a very interesting project, as it encourages students to read more fiction. The project enables them to understand and establish their own views about the works of various classic authors. This is the second year the competition is being held successfully together with Palitra L Publishing. There is a huge interest from students and our university plans to further continue this project,” TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava said
.
“Generation L competition came to an end today. Initially 1200 students were involved in the competition. Palitra L Publishing awarded the main prize of GEL 1000 to the winner. Books were presented to nine finalists. We will further continue our cooperation with TSU and be partners in this project,” Marketing Manager of Palitra L Publishing, Sopo Sakevarishvili said.
Project winner, Inga Antidze said: “It was very important for me, as for a reader and a project participant, to win the project. I have always loved reading and just therefore I participated in Generation L competition. I really did not expect to win the competition and I am extremely happy now.”
The awards ceremony was followed by a public lecture “Road” delivered by Giorgi Kekelidze. The lecture was dedicated to the importance of literacy.
“I think, it is a very important project from various points of view. First of all, it is important in terms of popularization of literacy and it aims at encouraging students. My lecture is partially related to those books, which were presented during the competition,” Director of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, Giorgi Kekelidze said.
The project was launched on April 23 and it lasted for two months. The contestants read the books selected for the project and then wrote the tests exclusively prepared for the competition. Contestants with the highest 10 scores competed in the finale.
The project organizers selected the books written in various genres: 1. The Aunt Tula (Miguel De Unamuno); 2. The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald); 3. Pulp (Charles Bukowski); 4. A Clockwork Orange (Anthony Burgess); 5. Moby-Dick (Herman Melville); 6. The Dreamer from Ostend (Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt); 7. Animal Farm (George Orwell); 8. The Firm (John Grisham); 9. Heart of a Dog (Mikhail Bulgakov); 10. Dandelion Wine (Ray Bradbury).
Leaders of the round were revealed during each stage of the competition. Certificates and memorable gifts were awarded to them. Eight online quizzes were held in frames of the competition; winners received prizes and additional two points. The project idea belongs to the students of the Tbilisi State University and it is jointly implemented by TSU and Palitra L Publishing for the second year already. The project aims at promoting literacy among young people and offering more fiction to students in a form of a competition.
