TSU Student Dormitory Officially Opens
26 December, 2017
A new student dormitory of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) was officially opened on December 26. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze; Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, students, professors and administrative staff attended the opening ceremony.

“Let me express my gratitude to the Government of Georgia for this present. The new campus unites three residential buildings, as well as one administrative building, housing a library, resource room and computer room. The entire infrastructure has been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The campus already houses 50 students. Each building has a canteen and a laundry. The environment is very comfortable. The Tbilisi City Hall has promised to provide public transport for students. Thus, students will have all opportunities for their studies and rest,” Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said.

The Ministry of Education and Science transferred the new dormitory located in the vicinity of Lisi Lake to TSU on its 99th anniversary.

“It is a modern dormitory that meets European standards. First of all, let me congratulate students on this very important occasion. Very soon, we will start working on a new, larger project – it is a new dormitory set to accommodate about 3000 students. We have already launched negotiations with the private sector on the project implementation. It will be extremely important for the students arriving from regions, as well as for foreign students. The new dormitory will house students from TSU, as well as other higher educational institutions,” Minister of Education and Science, Mikheil Chkhenkeli said.

The new complex is set to accommodate 320 students and it consists of three four-storey buildings.

“It is a huge step ahead in terms of supporting students. It helps us increase our motivation to learn and become professionals,” TSU student Victoria Baratashvili said.

A final match of Liga TSU tournament between football teams Colloquium of the Law Faculty and Siamski of Tourism School was held on the sideline of the opening ceremony with the latter winning the tournament. The solemn event ended with a concert by Labyrinth musical band.
