Lifelong Learning for Those Willing to Acquire New Skills

Lifelong Learning for Those Willing to Acquire New Skills
25 April, 2016
In the modern world, when labor market requirements are constantly changing, specific requirements have emerged in respect of the education system; a person should be able to obtain necessary qualification or retraining at any age without any obstacles. Just therefore the Bologna process made fundamental changes to the education sphere and started to introduce a concept of lifelong learning. According to the Bologna process, introduction of the principle of lifelong learning should become a significant part of the university missions and strategies.
After the introduction of lifelong learning principles was named as one of the key strategic goals of TSU’s strategic development plan approved by resolution No 14 (19.03.2007) of the Academic Council of TSU, the Center for Academic Development and Lifelong Learning was officially established at Tbilisi State University in 2009.
The major task of the Center was to develop lifelong learning programs for the university and broader public. In 2013, the Department of Training University Entrants and later in 2015 the Children’s University also joined the Center; since then, age limits of the Center’s target audience as well as number of offered programs and events have increased. Since 2015 the Center has been renamed the Center for Lifelong Learning.
Programs developed by the Center for Lifelong Learning can be divided into two categories: internal lifelong learning and society-wide lifelong learning.
Internal lifelong learning aims at organizing various events for training TSU academic and administrative personnel and recruits, as well as offering various additional educational programs to students.
Head of the TSU Center for Lifelong Learning, Gia Mamulashvili said that “when offering lifelong learning programs to broader public, we, first and foremost, take into consideration the requirements of Georgian employment market. Thus, our courses are oriented to the development of sectoral and/or general skills and their spectrum is diverse stemming from the university peculiarities.”
“The university entrants and those willing to enter master’s degree programs are offered assistance in getting ready for the unified national and joint master’s exams,” Gia Mamulashvili said.
“We offer very interesting programs and events to school children in frames of the Children’s University. Interested pupils will be able to attend the lectures of youth schools. Quite soon it will be possible to learn foreign languages at our center,” he said.
“Public lectures on various problematic and interesting issues are delivered by highly skilled and famous persons. We plan to hold public lectures on a regular basis,” Mamulashvili added.
Information about ongoing programs can be obtained at TSU’s official website, the section of Lifelong Learning, as well as on its Facebook page – TSU Lifelong Learning/TSU LLL.
Currently, the registration is underway for the following courses: English, German and French language certification courses. The center also offers the following training courses: Science and Intercultural Communication in Germany; Training of Trainers for Beginners; Excel course, as well as Data and Statistical Analysis course using PSS for Windows for beginners.
Gia Mamulashvili also says that “cooperation with us is interesting and useful for many reasons: first of all, it is largely determined by the fact that long-term educational or research experience accumulated in the university space has been used in the process of developing our courses; our teachers are highly qualified. We offer the public a very calm environment equipped in line with modern requirements and located at the best place, in the garden of TSU Building I.”
“Another important reason, why you should apply to us is that we can create programs, which will be tailored to your specific requirements. Certificates will be awarded upon completion of our courses,” Mamulashvili said.
