TSU Eco Club Participates in Planting of Greenery in Zestaponi Municipality

The Earth Day was marked in Zestaponi Municipality with planting 2200 acacia trees on the highest point of Zestaponi municipality – at the bottom of Samshralia (1088 meter above sea level), on the so called Vaknari area (800 meters above sea level). The event was supported by Zestaponi municipality and the National Forestry Agency. Along with the representatives of Zestaponi municipality and Imereti forestry agency, majoritarian MP from Tkibuli single-mandate constituency, Eliso Chapidze, representatives of Imereti regional administration, students from Tbilisi State University and TSU Assistant Professor, Coordinator of TSU Eco Club Giorgi Dvalishvili also participated in the event. Governor of Zestaponi, Tariel Tutarashvili said that “the purpose of the event is to raise public awareness; simultanesouly this event will help preserve and improve natural environment.” 

Head of the National Forestry Agency of Imereti Region, Mamuka Tsintsadze said: “The process of planting of greenery in one of the remarkable places of Imereti has symbolically ended on Earth Day. Along with a lot of agencies, future geographers and ecologists, TSU students were also involved in the event. I want to express my gratitude towards the Governor of Zestaponi municipality for his special support and solidarity; we will further intensify our efforts by autumn and I hope that more interested persons will join us and volunteers and specialists will actively get involved. So, the area of ecologically sustainable territories will sharply increase.”

TSU Assistant Professor Giorgi Dvalishvili said: “TSU Eco Club took part in an interesting event on Earth Day. I want to express my gratitude to the National Forestry Agency in Imereti Region and the Governor of Zestaponi Municipality for their support. Students had an opportunity to plant trees in the forestry area; they got acquainted with one of the remarkable places of Zestaponi – Vaknari. TSU Eco Club will continue its active involvement in future events organized by the Imereti Region’s municipalities and National Foresty Agency.”
