Two graduate students from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of Tbilisi State University, Teona Rusia (Information Technologies) and Irma Makharadze (Information Systems) were selected by the United Nations World Food Programme for six-month paid internships. They will undergo internships in Rome.

This initiative by the United Nations World Food Programme aims to encourage women’s involvement in the UN structures in the field of information technologies and to promote the employment of young women candidates of this profession. The candidates have undergone several stages of selection, including skype interviews. Irma and Teona also talked to their curators and they already know that they will have to work over managing and updating databases and website of this organization. Since the both young women think that this internship is a good opportunity for their career advancement, they are sure that they will do their utmost.

“Several months ago the World Food Programme contacted the TSU Career Development Center. We took contact information of all graduate girls from the database and contacted each of them personally. Besides monthly fees, the organization will also cover travel expenses. Successful interns may also receive very interesting proposals from various UN organizations worldwide. So, not only this internship will promote personal and professional growth of our students, but it will also open the door towards international labor market,” Head of the Career Development Center, Khatuna Tskhadadze said.
