Provost at San Diego State University Nancy A. Marlin Delivers Public Lecture at TSU

Provost at San Diego State University, Doctor of Psychology Nancy A. Marlin delivered a public lecture “Effects of Food Choices on Climate Change” at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on July 2. Dr. Marlin spoke about the issues of global warming and how individuals can contribute to climate change mitigation through their own food choices.
Deputy Rector of TSU, Professor Merab Eliashvili; Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Sharvashidze; CEO of the Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia, Magda Magradze; Dean of San Diego State University, Kenneth Walsh, professors and students attended the public lecture.
Dr. Nancy Marlin said that during the public lecture she would speak about the effects of food choices on climate change and added that many other issues, including those related to exchange programs would also be discussed during her visit.
Deputy Rector, Prof. Merab Eliashvili noted that “the meeting is connected with the Millennium Challenge project, which aims at introducing the U.S. education standards in Georgia in the field of engineering technology.” He also said that San Diego State University is also involved in the project and therefore Provost of this university, Dr. Nancy A. Marlin and other participants of the project are visiting TSU.
Georgian Deputy Education Minister Giorgi Sharvashidze said that “cooperation with San Diego State University will help popularize scientists and those research activities that are underway in San Diego and Tbilisi as well. Today, Ms. Nancy Marlin will deliver a lecture. I think that this lecture will be extremely interesting and many graduates will find out that there is a place in Georgia where they can get high quality education”.
“Prof. Nancy Marlin is a representative of San Diego State University and she has signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between San Diego State University and the Government of Georgia. The project aims at bringing American education to Georgia. This is one of the most important projects in the sphere of education,” CEO of the Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia, Magda Magradze said.
Since the beginning of 2015 San Diego State University (SDSU) has been offering bachelor degree programs to students in frames of the second USD 140 million compact signed between the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation and Georgia in 2013. The compact seeks to improve the quality of education in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Graduates will receive American diplomas.
In frames of the project the laboratories and other infrastructure of partner universities (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University; Ilia State University and Georgian Technical University) will be renovated and equipped with modern technologies. These educational programs will promote the development of natural science and technology fields in Georgia as well as training of highly skilled staff in the country.
